- Dan,
- Sounds to me like you have a new Maxtor drive. If so, and by the
- sounds of your problem, it sounds like the "MaxTransfer" value of the
- drive (it's stored in the Rigid Disk Block (RDB)) is wrong. This value
- controls how much data the drive can read/write in one transfer "gulp"
- (for lack of a better term).
- What you need to do is modify the value with a program called
- HDToolBox, which may be present in your Workbench partition somewhere.
- If it is, you need to run it, select the hard drive, then select each
- partition in turn along with the "Advanced Options..." button. In
- the advanced options area you will see the "MaxTransfer" field. Change
- the number in the field to 1fe00. This has to be done for *every*
- partition on the drive. When you have done this, exit back to the main
- screen and select "Save Changes".
- If you do not have HDToolBox, from what I've heard on Usenet, you
- can do the same type of operation with RDPrep. I think the filename
- is rdp391.lha on Aminet somewhere.
